TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

--John 8:12

When I was a boy growing up in Ft. Worth , Texas , I remember seeing a beggar on the street around Christmas one year.

It was apparent that the man was blind, and he held a sign that read, “The sun is shining, but I cannot see.” And you know, there really are a lot of people like that beggar in the world today. There’s a Light to be seen…but so many people are blind to it.

All of us know what it’s like to be in a pitch-dark room where you can’t see your hand in front of your face. Where you have vision…but you can’t see. Where there is sight…but no light.

Maybe you feel like your life is filled with darkness today…and the light of reason, the light of logic, the light of conscience have all failed you.

If so, remember you have light through Jesus Christ…the One who is “the light of the world.” So focus on Him!

As the old hymn says,

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,Look full in His wonderful face,And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,In the light of His glory and grace.

If you are weary and troubled, look up to Jesus today!

TODAY';S DEVOTIONAL

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

--Philippians 4:19

When Paul wrote to the people of Philippi , he knew they weren’t rich. As a matter of fact, the apostle Paul says these compassionate Christians gave out of their poverty so that his needs would be met. But they were doing so much more than just meeting his needs. They were making a spiritual investment!

In the same way today, when you give to the work of the Lord, you too make a spiritual investment. Not simply a contribution, but an investment in something that will truly last.

Here’s something to think about: If God doesn’t really need your money, why should you give? Because He wants you to be a part of His redemptive work in the world today! When you give, your focus is on others and on His kingdom work. And He knows that when your focus is on you, life gets very, very small.

Even if you think you don’t have very much to give, look around! Do you have time? Then plant the seeds of time. Even the smallest investment in others can make such a difference. Even the smallest of gifts can transmit hope, encouragement, blessing, and strength to others.

The Philippian believers were not a rich people…but they were rich towards God and they sowed into the life and ministry of the apostle Paul. They gave…and God blessed them as a result!

If you become rich towards God…if you become a giver…He’ll do the same for you!

Make a spiritual investment by consistently giving your time and resources to the work of the Lord.

TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

--1 Corinthians 10:31

Yesterday we focused on how our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit…the place God chooses to dwell here on earth. And while it’s important to be careful what we put in our bodies, we also need to be careful what we put on them!

God’s Word gives us a general dress code when it says we should use “greater modesty” (1 Corinthians 12:23) to cover the parts of our bodies that are not meant to be exposed. The biblical principle is modesty in the way we dress, which honors the Lord.

This means dressing in a way that shows self-respect and dignity. Others should not be so distracted by what we wear that they don’t focus their attention on what we say or how we act.

Like so many other decisions we make, the desire to show proper modesty in what we wear starts in the heart. We choose each day what we want to wear, and we know the effect we want our dress to have. Christians who dress immodestly to attract the attention of the opposite gender are forgetting that as believers, our audience is God, not other people.

What we put on is a very important concept in the Scriptures. We are told to put on the armor of Christ, to put on the goodness of God, and to clothe ourselves in righteousness. The local body of Christ, the church, is supposed to be dressed in these things, and I believe the church must also affirm and support modest, wholesome standards of dress.

We hear a lot about dressing for success. But since everything we do, including the way we dress, reflects on our Lord, then the ultimate in dressing for success is to make sure that even our wardrobe reflects His glory!.

MODESTY IN THE WAY WE DRESS IS A GOOD REFLECTION ON OUR LORD!
