TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL
Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
--1 Corinthians 10:31
Yesterday we focused on how our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit…the place God chooses to dwell here on earth. And while it’s important to be careful what we put in our bodies, we also need to be careful what we put on them!
God’s Word gives us a general dress code when it says we should use “greater modesty” (1 Corinthians 12:23) to cover the parts of our bodies that are not meant to be exposed. The biblical principle is modesty in the way we dress, which honors the Lord.
This means dressing in a way that shows self-respect and dignity. Others should not be so distracted by what we wear that they don’t focus their attention on what we say or how we act.
Like so many other decisions we make, the desire to show proper modesty in what we wear starts in the heart. We choose each day what we want to wear, and we know the effect we want our dress to have. Christians who dress immodestly to attract the attention of the opposite gender are forgetting that as believers, our audience is God, not other people.
What we put on is a very important concept in the Scriptures. We are told to put on the armor of Christ, to put on the goodness of God, and to clothe ourselves in righteousness. The local body of Christ, the church, is supposed to be dressed in these things, and I believe the church must also affirm and support modest, wholesome standards of dress.
We hear a lot about dressing for success. But since everything we do, including the way we dress, reflects on our Lord, then the ultimate in dressing for success is to make sure that even our wardrobe reflects His glory!.
MODESTY IN THE WAY WE DRESS IS A GOOD REFLECTION ON OUR LORD!
